STAIN REMOVAL
Most stains can be removed if dealt with immediately. The longer the stain is left the more difficult it is to remove. It is useful to have a spot and stain removal product on hand for immediate use. Never use washing up liquid as it will remove the stain but leaves a sticky residue that will attract future soil at an alarming rate leaving you with a stain more unsightly than the original. Cleaning products should be tested for colour fastness. You can do that by finding a hidden area of carpet, applying your stain remover, then with a white cloth apply pressure for 30 seconds. Take the cloth away and look for colour transfer, if some of the colour has migrated onto the cloth you should not use this product on your carpet. If there is no transfer it is safe to carry on with stain removal procedure. A majority of new carpets are protected with Scotchgard or a similar product, that helps protect from stains. Even with this protection NO CARPET IS STAINPROOF, in general hot liquids, bleach and natural dyes can cause permanent discoloration. LIQUID SPILLS As a general rule when a spill occurs, the quicker you deal with it the better chance of removal. Remove the majority of the spillage with a wet vacuum or absorbent towels. After absorbing the spillage, if the stain still persist, then apply your stain remover, working from the outside to the centre of the stain. NEVER RUB, ALWAYS BLOT. ( rubbing the fibres will damage and distort) After stain removal cover with a wad of kitchen towels, place a heavy object on top and leave to dry. SOLID AND GREASY SPILLAGE'S Use a spoon or knife to gently scrape off the spill. Apply your cleaning solution working from the outside to the centre of stain. Spillage's such as nail varnish, shoe polish and paint will require professional stain removal. |
